3.5 Billion Served. Today.

Still trying to understand how search can bring visitors to your website?

It is not an easy thing to understand. It helps to be sure you know the most basic facts about search. I am always surprised by how people's basic assumptions about how search works can be so off-base.

With 3.5 billion searches a day, at least some of them should be coming to your website.

First... Google not just an index of words. Search engines today use so many factors when evaluating a website — Google says over 200 — that it becomes daunting to figure out how to make your website meaningful. But what's a human to do? A lot of people just give up and abstain from engaging at all. Some learn the ways of search. But most learn enough to decide who they can trust to help them benefit from smart website decisions.

Where do you start?

At the beginning. The video below is just that — the basic ideas of Google search. Although this video was made in 2010, it is still a great starting point. For a more recent and in depth view of search Google has a great website located at: https://www.google.com/insidesearch/ .

By the way, notice that there is no mention of "meta keywords". Talk about a myth that just won't die. Never forget that Google does not value what the visitor to a page cannot see. (They have that on video too, and more recently here.)
